Have you heard of the Suzuki Method?

The Suzuki Method is one of the world’s three most famous music teaching methods, originating from Japan. It is a music education approach for young children that aligns with the fundamental principles of human learning. It has now been spread worldwide, with over 300,000 children annually in Japan, Asia, Europe, the Americas, Australia, and other parts of the world successfully opening the door to music through the guidance of the Suzuki Method.

Why has the Suzuki Method gained universal recognition and praise in the global children's music education community?

Dr. Shinichi Suzuki, founder of the Japanese Talent Education Association (and the creator of the Suzuki Method), emphasized that “a person is a child of their environment.” Dr. Suzuki observed that every child in the world can naturally and fluently speak their native language. He applied this remarkable discovery to music education, guiding children to enter the world of music through listening first, in a natural environment. Once a good learning environment is provided by parents and teachers, children are naturally guided to learn performance techniques and how to read music.

This mother-tongue-based teaching principle, which is most in line with human nature, explains the Suzuki philosophy that “every child can succeed, depending on the teaching method.” Moreover, it is even more important that the teacher guiding the child into the world of music possesses a kind and noble character. Only then can one truly be a successful Suzuki teacher. Next, the teacher’s performance and teaching skills are also important.

Dr. Suzuki’s emphasis on “education through love” focuses on developing the child’s life values rather than the superiority or inferiority of their intelligence. This is why the Suzuki Method has gained worldwide recognition and praise.

Why Join the Suzuki Teaching System?

The Taiwan Suzuki Association (TSA) was established in 1994 and is the only legally recognized Suzuki organization in Taiwan, approved by the Ministry of the Interior. The TSA’s founding and recognition were supported by Dr. Shinichi Suzuki, the founding president of the International Suzuki Association, and Dr. Evelyn Hermann, the founding CEO, who authorized and recognized TSA in 1994.

All teachers at TSA have completed Suzuki teacher training courses organized by the International Suzuki Association’s Four Discipline Teacher Training Committee. TSA teachers are certified by recognized Suzuki organizations worldwide, including the Suzuki Talent Education Research Institute (TERI) in Japan, the Suzuki Association of the Americas (SAA), the European Suzuki Association (ESA), and the Taiwan Suzuki Association (TSA) Teacher Training Committee (led by Chairperson Michi Hirata).

Members of TSA’s various disciplines are taught by qualified Suzuki teachers trained by international Suzuki senior trainers. They also have access to official Suzuki Association-approved materials, including original textbooks, audio tapes, CDs, and video tapes for supplementary education (the TSA strictly prohibits its teachers from using pirated Suzuki materials).

Furthermore, both teachers and Suzuki students have the opportunity to participate in the annual recital and Suzuki level exams. Regular opportunities are also available to join international Suzuki exchange concerts and overseas exchange activities.
